Lies, Exaggerations & Generalisations

…also, I wrote this record review. Although I was a bit sleep deprived at the time, so it might not make much sense.

I really do feel a bit guilty for just spamming tumblr with links to my work (and yet I still keep doing it).

It seems like I’m only ever on tumblr these days when I have an article to plug.

And on that note, here’s my review of the week’s singles.

(Sorry).

Earlier in the week I reviewed Yeasayer’s latest. If you aren’t already bored of people going on about why it’s slightly disappointing, you can read my take on it here.

Once again, I reviewed the weeks’ singles for No Ripcord, and was presented with new tracks by Paloma Faith, George Michael, some guy off the X-Factor and two(!!!) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

(I really should start demanding money for doing this, or at least booze).

It seems like it’s been a while since I’ve written a review (all my creative writing energies currently being focused on putting together CVs and cover letters that make me seem employable), and I’m feeling a bit rusty. But here’s my thoughts on Cosmopolis.

My review of the latest Scissor Sisters album is up on noripcord.com.
Only three weeks after it came out… Must admit that it was rather hampered by my not actually being able to sit through the record in one go. And by my not having much to say about it (hence the lapse into Pitchfork-style tactics at the end).
But yeah, now I’ve got your attention: http://www.noripcord.com/reviews/music/scissor-sisters/magic-hour

My review of Karin Park’s sure-to-be-breakthrough album is up on noripcord.com.

… She really does sound like her out of The Knife/Fever Ray y’know (and that is, of course, a very good thing)…

… Did forget to mention in the review that there’s nothing on the album that’s quite as brilliant as this remix though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=migZYccIFOI

While linking to stuff, here’s my hastily written take on this week’s singles for noripcord.com

I struggled for two weeks to come up with an actual opinion on Garbage’s comeback album. And still didn’t really manage it, so here’s my rather non-committal take on it.

While I’m review-linking, here’s my Mariee Sioux album review. I should really have posted it here last week, but then at least I’ve reviewed it; most webzines, oddly, have not.
